KANPUR: The Etawah gang rape victim’s brother on Sunday morning submitted a complaint with the police about threat calls. But the police denied taking cognizance of the charges saying they were fake.

Meanwhile, the victim continued to battle for life at SGPGI hospital in Saifai where her condition was still very critical, said Etawah’s additional superintendent of police (ASP) Rishipal Singh. He further said four police teams had been asked to track down the prime accused Farhan aka Farman’s father Pappu, his brother-inlaw Shakil, nephew Ahmed, mother Shaddo and grandmother Sabira. Farman was taken into custody earlier on Saturday. “A team has been sent to Akbarpur. Other teams are raiding the possible hideouts of the accused in Etawah and Kanpur,” he added.

In another development, police raids have made the relatives and associates of the accused flee their native Baisermau village.

“Police reportedly detained three relatives of the accused family in order to obtain information about the possible hideouts and to mount pressure on them to surrender either before police on in court,” a police department source said. The source added that chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav had taken a serious note of the alleged gang-rape of the private tutor. They had directed the police to ensure early arrest of the accused, the source said . Amagiste-rial probe has already been ordered into the incident.
