Over 1.71 lakh hit by flood

LUCKNOW: Over 380 villages in 14 districts of the state have been inundated and over 1.71 lakh residents of the area as major rivers in the state continued to flow in spate.

Relief and rescue operations were being carried out, according to a report from the relief commission­er’s office.

The Ganga was flowing above the danger mark at Bulandshah­r, Ghazipur and Ballia, while the Ken river was above the red mark at Banda.

The Sharda was flowing above the danger mark at Palia Kalan and the Ghaghra river at Elgin Bridge and Turtipar (Ballia).

So far, at least 232 people have been killed in rain and flood related incidents in the state.

Rains were witnessed in Jhansi, Mahroni, Mirzapur, Robert ganj, Nazibabad , Ghaziabad, Handia, Karchana, Birdghat, Churk and Agra, Meteorolog­ical department said.

According to the Meteorolog­ical office, light to moderate rains or thundersho­wers occurred at isolated places in the state during the last 24 hours.

Heavy rainfall would occur at isolated places over east UP during next 48 hours, the Met department said. MORADABAD COMMISSION­ER VISITS AFFECTED VILLAGES MEERUT: Divisional commission­er of Moradabad, Shiv Shankar Singh, visited the flood-affected villages situated on the banks of the river Ramganga on Tuesday.

The commission­er first reached village Khaibhud of tehsil Thakuradwa­ra and from there he left his car to take a ride on a bullock cart.

He did a survey of entire low lying areas on the cart along with a few officials and directed them to make all necessary arrangemen­ts to protect villages from the flood.
