Over 1.71 lakh hit by flood
LUCKNOW: Over 380 villages in 14 districts of the state have been inundated and over 1.71 lakh residents of the area as major rivers in the state continued to flow in spate.
Relief and rescue operations were being carried out, according to a report from the relief commissioner’s office.
The Ganga was flowing above the danger mark at Bulandshahr, Ghazipur and Ballia, while the Ken river was above the red mark at Banda.
The Sharda was flowing above the danger mark at Palia Kalan and the Ghaghra river at Elgin Bridge and Turtipar (Ballia).
So far, at least 232 people have been killed in rain and flood related incidents in the state.
Rains were witnessed in Jhansi, Mahroni, Mirzapur, Robert ganj, Nazibabad , Ghaziabad, Handia, Karchana, Birdghat, Churk and Agra, Meteorological department said.
According to the Meteorological office, light to moderate rains or thundershowers occurred at isolated places in the state during the last 24 hours.
Heavy rainfall would occur at isolated places over east UP during next 48 hours, the Met department said. MORADABAD COMMISSIONER VISITS AFFECTED VILLAGES MEERUT: Divisional commissioner of Moradabad, Shiv Shankar Singh, visited the flood-affected villages situated on the banks of the river Ramganga on Tuesday.
The commissioner first reached village Khaibhud of tehsil Thakuradwara and from there he left his car to take a ride on a bullock cart.
He did a survey of entire low lying areas on the cart along with a few officials and directed them to make all necessary arrangements to protect villages from the flood.
