LUCKNOW: They don’t know where their siblings are but when it came to celebrating the bond of brother-sister love, the orphaned and abandoned children of the government shelter home at Prag Narayan Road did it with full gusto.

The day of Raksha Bandhan was a special one for all, be it those who had celebrated the festival in the past or the ones who were doing it for the first time.

Pappu, 8, an inmate of the home, said, “We don’t know where our real sisters are. But, we are like a family here and all these girls are my sisters.”

The girls had been excited about the festival for the past couple of days and some had even applied henna on their hands.

Gudiya, 6, was seen asking her fellow inmates about the gift she would get on Raksha Bandhan.

A Awasthi, incharge of the home, said, “The children were very enthusiastic since the past few days. We planned a special menu, got sweets, rakhi and gifts for them.”

While the boys flaunted their colourful rakhis, the girls couldn’t resist gushing about their gifts, which included bangles, nail paints, necklaces etc.

“This is the best gift. I had been wanting a pair of bangles for long and am happy to have finally received them from my brothers,” said an inmate.

Children at the Lilawati Munshi Balgrih at Moti Nagar also celebrated the festival.
