‘CHOKED DRAINS ADDING TO DENGUE CASES’

-

LUCKNOW: With new cases being reported everyday, dengue prevention is turning into a pain in the neck for district health authorities. On Wednesday too, four cases with symptoms of dengue were reported from different private hospitals of the city.

Municipal authorities and health officials attribute rise in dengue cases to construction material choking drains in several places. “Construction material dumped in drains makes the water stagnant and thus perfect for mosquitoes to breed in. Similarly, rainwater collecting in debris of unfinished buildings is also a suitable breeding ground for mosquitoes,” said an officials.

Alarmingly, more cases of dengue were reported from developed areas like Gomti Nagar, Mahanagar, Nirala Nagar, Jankipuram, Ashiana, Indira Nagar and Alambagh as compared to the Old City.

Chief medical officer SNS Yadav has appealed to the people to take precautions to avert mosquito breeding on their premises. “Since mosquitoes breed in stagnant water, residents must ensure water does not remain collected in coolers, pots, vessels etc. Drains must be regularly cleaned and if possible they can be sprayed with lime powder or kerosene can be poured into them,” he added.

Nagar Swathya Adhikari Dr PK Singh said LMC has plans to check all the drains where problem of stagnant water was reported. Gomti Nagar and Indira Nagar residents have been advised to notify the LMC about water stagnantion.
