LUCKNOW: A photographer working for a popular adventure and animal life television channel, was arrested here on Thursday for the murder of a fabricator in Janakipuram.

The police said the accused, who was whimsical, attacked the fabricator with a knife because the latter told him to not click photographs of insects outside his house late night on August 1. The victim succumbed to stab injuries in KGMU’s trauma centre on August 2.

The accused, Dharam Singh Chandravanshi of Balrampur, stays here in a rented house in Sector 7, Janakipuram, barely one kilometre from the spot. He studied law in a Madhya Pradesh college but opted for photography as a profession due to his inclination to discover new things about animal life.

The accused was clicking photographs of

insects outside the victim’s house on the

day of incident.

ASP (trans-Gomti), Habibul Hasan said the police investigation revealed instant scuffle of the accused with the victim Abdul Razi Khan and his friend Abhishek Bajpai on the day of incident led to the murder. He said Chandravanshi was whimsical and became violent on petty issues. His wife Sonu had also registered an FIR against him for attacking her and her sister over a petty issue five months ago, he added.

The ASP said, “Chandravanshi loitered in the locality at night to click photographs of insects. He was out for the same work on the day of incident and was clicking photographs outside the victim’s under-construction house”. He said the victim became suspicious and objected to photographs being taken.

He said the accused tried to explain to Razi and his friend about his photography work but they apparently failed to understand. He said this provoked the accused and he attacked the victim with a knife that he carried for professional work. The injuries proved fatal for Razi.

The ASP said the accused was traced with the help of details provided by the victim’s friend Abhishek Bajpai, who was eyewitness to the incident. He said the eyewitness told the cops that the assailant introduced himself as a photographer. “Chandravanshi’s passion for photography helped us to trace him and crack the case,” he added.
