Senior students take initiative to mentor freshers
LUCKNOW: Now senior students of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University will mentor their juniors, help them in academics and even supervise them in extra curricular activities to hone their understanding of the discipline.
The first step in this direction has been taken by the Legal Aid Committee comprising mainly of senior students of the university who will conduct an RTI application drafting exercise for the first year students on Monday. “The purpose of this exercise is to make juniors more comfortable with the senior students. The seniors will familiarise the freshers with the nitty gritty of writing an RTI application. The applications that seem to be of practical relevance will be followed up by the committee and forwarded to the concerned authority,” said vice chancel- lor of the university prof Gurdip Singh.
Also, the participants can accompany the committee members in following up the applications if they so desire. The performance in the exer- cise will also form a consideration while selecting members of the committee during the inductions, said Sachin Upadhyay, vice-president, Care About People Foundation and convener of Legal Aid Committee of the university. He said that the Care About People Foundation in collaboration with the Legal Aid Committee wants to pursue this exercise to help aspiring lawyers to come to terms with RTI. “The objective behind organising such an event is that students will get a chance to develop the habit of looking for information from credible sources, scrutinise the same and act further if so needed in national interest,” said a senior student.
