Now, bedside pathology tests for patients at MU
FROM SEPT Staff of private cos would perform tests and give reports immediately to doctors
LUCKNOW: Come September, patients at the KGMU would be getting pathology test facilities at their bedside.
The service would be available to those admitted to the emergency ward, Trauma Centre, ICU and OPD. Machines for X-ray, ultrasound, CT scan and blood investigation have been installed in these wards by private companies.
The facilities would be provided on public private partnership (PPP) model wherein the staff of these companies would be performing the tests and giving the reports immediately to the doctors for further treatment.
“If pathological tests and radiological investigations can be provided at the bedside of patients, then many lives could be saved,” said Professor DK Gupta, vice-chancellor, KGMU.
These subsidised facilities would also relieve attendants of the inconvenience of moving patients to the nearest pathology or radio diagnostic centre.
According to the system, the private companies would be placing their equipment (mobile CT Scans and X-Ray machines) in the space provided by the KGMU.
All the machines and tests would be certified by the National Accreditation Board (NABL). The Central Government has authorised NABL as the sole accreditation body for testing and calibration laboratories.
With the involvement of NABL, patients would be assured of reliable testing. The V-C said under the PPP model, the private companies would be getting work in bulk every day. “The private companies would have an opportunity to be associated with a reputed organisation like KGMU and that’s why they will have to share a percentage of their profit with the university,” added Gupta.
