A state-of-the-art police control room - expected to come up in six months - would help the Lucknow police expedite crime investigation in a tech-savvy way.

The 4G-enabled facility equipped with computer-aided dispatch system would be housed on the ground and first floor of the UP State Sugar Corporation Ltd building next to the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) office in Gomti Nagar. The modern control room would be commissioned at a cost of about Rs 7.5 crore over an area of 3,000 square feet.

The control room would enable a common man to file a complaint, inform and call police in an emergency through the Internet.

“The highlight of the facility would be that the call received on police helpline number 100 would automatically be directed to the nearest police patrol party for immediate redressal of the complaint,” said additional commissioner OP Pathak.

He said this during a high level meeting of police and administration officials presided over by divisional commissioner Sanjiv Saran on Friday. The complaints would be taken up through global positioning system (GPS) he said.

The state government has roped in the Indian Telephone Industries (ITI) India Ltd, a public sector enterprise for project. The UP Police and Reliance Jio have signed an MoU on this.

The police patrol teams moving on foot, four-wheeler or motorcycle would be equipped with Memory Technology Device (MTD) through which they can send audio, data and snap shots of the spot to the control room. After analysing the information, the officer present in the control room would send a direction to the patrol team for action.

The control room can also forward picture clippings to the patrol team. The patrol party, in turn, can get a printout of the direction as well. The people can get assistance from the control room by dial- ling 100. “The calls cannot be rejected and the cops will have to act. Instead of running from pillar to post to get their complaint registered, all that a complainant has to do is dial the telephone number of the control room and get the complaint registered. On regular intervals, he will be updated about the progress of the investigation,” a senior police official said.

The government will recruit and train constables exclusively for handling these control rooms. Equipped with Internet connections to help individuals contact the police at district levels, the control rooms would be fitted with multiple TV screens and CCTVs. The control rooms will not only keep round-the-clock watch but also monitor traffic conditions across cities.
