tal would soon be taken up in the cabinet for approval. “It has been agreed upon in principle that a medical college will come up here.

The infrastructure is already present, hence a cabinet nod will speed up the process,” he said. The Lohia hospital with over 300 beds has adequate infrastructure to get permission for running a medical college with 150 MBBS seats.

However, starting the session might take another year, as permission from the Medical Council of India and appointment of faculty would be prerequisite. Students would be able to get admission in the medical college only from 2015-16 session.

RMLIMS director Nuzhat Husain said the proposed expansion of the institute would incorporate several other specialty teaching facilities for the students in future.

“A major expansion in clinical services is proposed with all specialty departments, emergency and trauma care,” she said.

Prof Husain said the concept of Adarsh ward was based on the unique feature of catering to all requirements of patient, including medicines at the bedside round-the-clock.

The institute in the near future is planning to provide trauma care for patients coming after OPD hours as well.

A proposal for starting the new facilities would be prepared soon.
