Three injured in scrap market blaze in Aliganj

Three people were injured and property worth several lakhs was gutted in a major fire that broke out in a scrap market and slum situated adjoining to it at Sitapur road in Aliganj area on Sunday afternoon.

The incident caused panic among the residents leading to major traffic jam for around two hours. At least eight fire tenders took over four hours to completely douse the flames.

According to fire service official, the fire started from a hut where food was being cooked. The flames soon engulfed the other huts of the slum and the scarp market. The slum dwellers initially tried to douse the flames on their own and did not inform the fire brigade service.

However, a passerby Rajesh Srivastava, court employee, called up the fire service control room and informed them about the incident. The fire tenders were then rushed to the spot but by then the flames had spread all over the area.

Three persons got injured when they tried to douse the fire. They were three slum dwellers Mohd Ushra, Mohd Tufail and Sahil.

The fire officials said five peo- ple who suffered the maximum loss where three bamboo dealers Waqar Ahmad, Baba Bihari and Mohd Umar.

Two others were Noor Ahmad, a scrap dealer and Mohd Yaseen, who owned furniture shop in the same market.

It is the third incident of major fire in the past four days. On Friday, property worth several lakhs was gutted when a major fire broke out in a cotton mattress godown in the crowded Maulviganj locality in Aminabad area.

Similarly, a major fire was reported in a house located in crowded Fatehganj Gallamandi in Aminabad on Wednesday night.
