LUCKNOW: Wrestler Udai Chandra, the winner of first Arjuna award, along with several other Arjuna awardees arrived in the state capital to appeal to people of Lucknow to vote for BJP chief Rajnath Singh. Along with fellow wrestlers and Arjuna awardees ACP Premchand and Virendra Dalal, winner of gold medal in weightlifting Golden Rathore and chief of the Indian Sports Federation Sunil Gupta, Udai Chandra said as sportspersons they believed that the BJP chief was different from other politicians.

They said by electing Rajnath, Lucknow would be electing an MP who would be capable of changing the face of his constituency due to the immense influence he is likely to wield in the new government.

“Besides his national profile, Lucknow should also be proud of the fact that in Rajnath they would have a leader with a spotless track record,” the Arjuna awardees said.

“I remember that as UP CM he had organised the first ever khel panchayat in Lucknow. Then the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre too had taken several decisions in favour of sportspersons. Naturally we have great hopes from him,” Chandra said.

The sportspersons also canvassed support for the BJP chief by seeking votes for him. City mayor Dinesh Sharma, BJP’s UP general secretary Pankaj Singh, former deputy mayor Abhay Seth were among those who accompanied the sportspersons.

Meanwhile, BJP’s Lucknow unit chief Manohar Singh informed that the BJP chief who arrived in the state capital on Saturday evening would be having a busy Sunday. Senior BJP leader Narendra Singh Rana said, the BJP chief would be meeting representatives of various NGOs as well as a delegation of chartered accountants and company secretaries at Madhav Sabhagar.

He would also be meeting representatives of Bengali community at Boys Anglo School, Sunderbagh followed by a meeting with members of Sahu community at a city hotel. Rajnath Singh is also scheduled to meet groups of engineering and MBA students.

“Despite his national respon-
