AGRA: More than often criticised for playing on back foot and opting for ‘easy’ entry into politics vide the Rajya Sabha, the Rashtriya Lok Dal candidate from Fatehpur Sikri kept it direct and sharp on Sunday.

“They alleged that I cannot do hard work or stay among the people... they say I’m a back foot boy and becoming MP from Rajya Sabha is easier than getting elected…(I want to tell them) politics is not my business but mission for development,” Amar Singh told Hindustan Times. “I am here to serve the people and so I have decided to contest for the Lok Sabha seat and get elected by the masses,” he added.

Slamming the opponents in the fray for resorting to caste-based politics, the Rajput leader from Azamgarh, said: “All the political leaders are raising issues pertaining to one or two specific castes or some special section of the society. They never raise issues for the benefit of the common man. But after years of unemployment, a change is palpable among youngsters. They want a government that takes up their issues seriously.”

Denying the presence of any ‘Modi-wave’ in the region, Singh said: “Today, Modi is the ‘new darling’ of the national media, as you can see him on every channel. This is perhaps because it is related to the TRP game. So everybody is trying to show or debate upon what Modi has to say.”
