GUN GOES OFF ACCIDENTALLY IN MOVING BUS, CONSTABLE KILLED

-

LUCKNOW: A city police constable was killed when his service rifle accidentally got fired while he was sitting in a bus, going to poll duty in Bijnore on Sunday morning. The incident took place in the moving bus while it was reaching Siddhauli locality in Sitapur, around 45 kilometres from the state capital.

The police constable was identified as Azamgarh resident Jagdish Yadav, who was posted here at Sarojininagar police station for the past many years. He along with his family stayed at a rented house in Murali Vihar Colony, a few metres from Sarojinanagar police station.

SSP Lucknow, Praveen Kumar said the incident was really shocking for the police force. He said, “Initially people felt that he has committed suicide but detailed examination confirmed that it was an accident.

He was holding the rifle in his hands and apparently resting his chin on the rifle’s barrel while sitting.

He must have felt sleepy while travelling and the rifle’s trigger got pulled off.”

He said the bullet pierced the chin and passed through the head leaving him dead on the spot. The SSP said the police had crosschecked the incident through other police personnel present in the bus and most of them stated about the accidental gun shot. He said the family members of the constable had been informed about the incident.
