Political offices near Vidhan Bhawan should be shifted: Azam

- HT Correspondent

LUCKNOW: Minister for parliamentary affairs Mohammad Azam Khan on Tuesday said the BJP protests outside the Vidhan Bhawan were shameful. Speaking in the assembly, he even suggested that offices of political parties near the Bhawan should be shifted.

Khan’s observations though evoked strong protests from the BJP, the ruling party members continued to target the BJP, forcing speaker Mata Prasad Pandey to adjourn the House.

A large chunk of the question hour (about 45 minutes) could not be held due to adjournment as Khan rose from his seat soon after the House assembled at 11am saying there was a threat to the security of the Vidhan Sabha. “How far will they go to achieve their political objectives,” said Khan in an obvious reference to the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) protests outside the Vidhan Bhawan on Monday.

“Whatever happened on the gates of Vidhan Sabha was shameful; stone-pelting led to breaking of windowpanes, the common man faced problems and patients had to run away from a hospital. If the crowd had entered inside it would have been dangerous. We will have to ensure security of the Vidhan Sabha and the political offices within 50 metres of Vidhan Sabha needed to be shifted,” said Khan.

BJP legislature party deputy leader Satish Mahana said law and order was at the lowest ebb in the state. Mahana made an indirect reference to Badaun incident saying the bodies of girls had been found hanging from the tree. At this point, the Samajwadi Party members rose from their seats in protest and began waving the newspaper clipping referring to the BJYM protests.

Minister for backward classes Ambika Chaudhary said dangerous material, including acid bottles, weapons and brick stones, had been collected at the BJP party’s office. This all had been done in a planned manner.
