LUCKNOW: Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday made light of the BJP’s pre-Lok Sabha poll slogan — ‘achche din aane wale hain’. He said the media would best know about the days that had come now but refused to make a direct comment on the hike in the prices of petrol and diesel as well as the increase in rail fares.

“How do you feel about the days that have come? As of now, we are not making any comments on behalf of the Samajwadi Party on the issue. I am told one of your fellow journalists escaped unhurt yesterday (Monday),” the chief minister said while making an indirect reference to the violence during the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) protest in front of Vidhan Bhawan on Monday. The chief minister spoke when he was asked to comment on the price hike after he inaugurated the Van Mahotsav at his residence here on Tuesday.

Laying stress on increasing the state’s forest cover, he said the forest department should take possession of all its land and plant saplings there.

Mahotsav’ at his 5-Kalidas Marg residence. the chief minister said 82,232 saplings were being planted at 530 places across the state on the occasion. He said over a lakh saplings had already been planted after a drive was launched on June 5, 2014 — the World Environment Day.

The chief minister lauded the forest department, saying it had not only planted saplings but had also set up the Lion Safari in Etawah, started a new train in the Lucknow Zoo and done some good work in Kanpur as well.

A sapling of ‘parijat’ (Kalp Vriksha) was presented to the chief minister on the occasion.

In a lighter vein, he said too many saplings, including ‘parijat’ had been planted at the chief minister’s residence in the past as well and “this may turn the chief minister’s residence into a dense forest”.
