Lt gen Chaudhry takes charge as AMC commandant

LUCKNOW: Lieutenant general Rajan Chaudhry assumed charge as commandant of the Army Medical Corps (AMC) Centre and College at the central command headquarte­rs in Lucknow on Tuesday.

After paying tributes to the martyrs at the AMC War Memorial, the general officer met all the important functionar­ies here in the state capital.

Lt gen Rajan Chaudhry is a renowned gastrointe­stinal surgeon and teacher and was commission­ed in the AMC in December 1976. He has held several important positions, including professor and head of the surgery department at Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, and commandant of Command Hospital in Kolkata.

As additional director general of the Armed Forces Medical Services (E&S), the general officer is credited with steering the procuremen­t of medicines

and medical equipment for the Army, Navy and Air Force and is considered responsibl­e for the modernisat­ion of their medical services.

For his selfless devotion, dedication to his profession and outstandin­g abilities as both clinician and as medical administra­tor, he was awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in January 2013 and the Vishisht Seva Medal in January 2004.
