Ever since the video of Tapas Pal’s insensitive outburst went viral, there has been an outpour of criticism from all corners. The BJP and the Congress filed two separate police complaints against the TMC MP.

The state BJP has said it will write to Lok Sabha Speaker demanding action against Pal and will also take up the issue with HRD minister Smriti Irani who will visit Kolkata on July 4.

CPI(M) too stated that they would lodge FIRs against the MP. Pal, meanwhile, sent an unconditional apology for his comments.

“I have lodged a police complaint against MP Tapas Pal and urged the police to treat it as an FIR. We feel that his statements will further deteriorate law and order situation in the state. He should be immediately arrest- ed,” said Swarup Bose, general secretary of North Kolkata district Congress.

Jaya Sarkar a district worker of BJP who lodged the complaint said, “We demand immediate arrest of Tapas Pal. We will also write to the Lok Sabha speaker to take action against the MP after his horrific statement. He should be allowed to enter the Parliament,” said Rahul Sinha, state BJP president.

Jumping into the protest bandwagon, 14 Chandannagar-based NGOs have united against the ‘derogatory’ comments by Pal.

While they have already shot a letter to the mayor of the town’s civic body, the organisations would be also sending letters to the LS Speaker and President Pranab Mukherjee to take immediate steps against the MP.
