Govt to unveil national employment policy soon
Online portals for single-window compliance of labour laws and national service for career guidance
NEW DELHI: The gover nment is likely to soon unveil a new national employment policy along with two online portals for single-window compliance of labour laws and a national career service for employment guidance. The inter-ministerial consultations for the same that began a month ago, concluded on Monday.
To support the policy, an online portal will be launched in October 2014, in collaboration with the Organisation of Chief Labour Commissioner ( central), Employee State Insurance Corp and Employee Provident Fund Organisation. It will be used for registration of employers and redressal of grievances among other things.
Gauri Kumar, secre-tary, ministry o f labour and employment had writt en t o various ministries seeking inputs for the new employment policy. “The government is exploring to revamp the vocational training, national career serv- ice, social security and promotion of industrial harmony through labour regulations,” a senior official in the labour ministry said.
“Scaling of productivity levels would require development of human capital and entrepreneurship, technological advancement and innovation, along with enabling macro-economic policies, infrastructure and concerted action,” Kumar said in her letter.
For the purposes of skill building, t he gover nment will focus on recognition of already established capacity with the human resources department and work on enhancing them to meet industry requirements, a labour ministry source said.
“There is an urgent need to expand the vocational training at certificate level t o upgrade and enrich the skill base and productivity levels of growing non-farm employment construction,” according to Kumar’s letter.
