27th min: Xhaka shot from near the penalty area after a Shaqiri dribbled his way into the box. But Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero stuck out a foot to it to clear it.

30th min: Di Maria’s cornerkick curled across the front of goal but Garay was an inch away from getting a decent header on that.

40th min: Switzerland’s Josip Drmic found himself in the clear and had only Romero to beat, who could have come off his line to clear the danger but chose not to. Drmic chipped the ball into Romero’s hands.

50th min: Shaqiri’s free-kick was bang on the target. However’ Argentina goalkeeper Romero nevertheless caught it. After a quick bobble the goalkeeper recovered.

51st min: Switzerland continued to press forward and Drmic once again found space on the left but opted to shoot on target without assessing his options. The resulting effort sailed over the crossbar.

59 min: Marcos Rojo stinged Swiss goalkeeper Diego Benaglio’s hands. The latter couldn’t hold onto the ball but his backline helped clear the rebound.

62 min: Gonzalo Higuain got a good header on target and looked to have beaten the Swiss keeper but Benaglio once again got a last-second fingertip to deny Argentina the opener.

67 min: Messi controlled a ball well off his chest to strike a vicious half-volley toward Benaglio but it missed the target.

78 min: Another great run by Messi but Benaglio was once again up to the task, thwarting the effort before the Swiss backline could clear it.
