CAG reports: BJP, Cong MLAs create ruckus in House

-

LUCKNOW: Demanding debate on Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports alleging irregularities in the construction of memorials and organisation of Mahakumbh, the BJP and Congress MLAs created pandemonium in the legislative assembly on Thursday.

Raising the issue through adjournment motion, leader of the BJP legislature party Satish Mahana said CAG in its report highlighted embezzlement of fund in the construction of the memorials during BSP rule as well as mismanagement in Mahakumbh mela by SP government. A debate should be held in the house on both the issues, said Mahana.

Leader of the opposition Swami Prasad Maurya objected to the demand and said there was no provision of debate in the House over CAG report. Disallowing the adjournment notice, Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey said the CAG report would be sent to Public Accounts Committee and a debate could be held only after the committee submitted it report.

While unrelenting BJP MLAs rushed into the well of the house, the Speaker insisted that instead of creating ruckus in the house they should move a petition in the anti-corruption cell. Parliamentary Affairs minister Azam Khansaid the BJP members would earn the ire of the sadhus and pilgrims who have praised the state government for successful organisation of the mela.

Speaker adjourned the house for over the issue twice. Amid din, the budget of Food and Civil Supplies department, Small Scale Industry department, Women and Child Welfare department, Culture department and Transport department was tabled and passed in the house.
