SC REFUSES BAIL TO KUSHWAHA
The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday refused bail to former UP cabinet minister Babu Singh Kushwaha, who was arrested in the multi-crore National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam case.
A bench of justices Ranjana Prakash Desai and NV Ramana refused to entertain Kushwaha’s plea, saying the allegations against him were grave and he cannot be granted bail at this stage. “You wait for a while. You can always renew your plea for bail,” the bench told senior advocate Sushil Kumar appearing for the politician.
Kushwaha had moved the SC challenging the Allahabad high court order rejecting his bail plea in the scam, which had taken place during the previous Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government headed by Mayawati.
CBI is investigating the case and had submitted a charge sheet against the accused persons. The case is being heard in a CBI court at Ghaziabad.
