Poverty alleviation: LMC to set up eight City Livelihood Centres soon
LUCKNOW: The Lucknow Municipal Corporation will soon come up with eight City Livelihood Centres for creating more jobs for the urban poor under the National Urban Livelihood Mission Programme for Poverty Alleviation.
Under this programme skilled labourers, including carpenters, plumbers, mechanics and electricians, would be registered with the City Livelihood Centre and a database prepared. Next, a toll free number would be set up, where residents could call to avail the services. In return they would be charged a nominal service charges by the centre, besides the fee for worker.
A training programme for setting up such centre was inaugu- rated by secretary urban development department SP Singh, in presence of national coordinator of housing and urban poverty alleviation department Khateebullah, on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, SP Singh said the LMC, which will be setting up eight CLCs over the next few months, would serve as mini-exchange for residents as well as skilled labours.
“Most of the times people don’t get reliable and skilled workers, who are verified by authorities. Also skilled workers remain jobless due in absence of communication. With such centres in place, these problems would be solved,” he said, adding that the centre would have a database -- containing names, contact information and field of specialisation of all skilled workers in the city.
The urban development department secretary also called upon the corporation officials to provide land for setting up shelter homes for the homeless.
