Mohanlalganj rape, murder: Guard emerges as main accused, arrested

- HT Correspondent

Police on Saturday identified a security guard of a medical institute as an accused in the brutal rape and murder of a 35-year-old woman in Mohanlalganj on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.

“The accused is the guard at the premier medical institute where the victim was working for the last three years,” said a senior police officer associated with the probe.

“The guard single handedly subjected the woman to cruelty by brutally beating her up and inserting a hard blunt object into her body,” the officer added.

The accused, who lives near the site of the crime, has been traced and taken into custody.

According to the police officer, the earlier theory of at least three people being involved in the crime has been proved wrong.

The guard’s clothes — a red shirt and black pant— that he was wearing on the day of crime has been recovered from his house and sent for the forensic examination.

The officer said that the guard’s presence near the victim’s house and at the crime scene has been established through electronic surveillance. Police have also traced a four-wheeler that was used to take the woman to the school. The guard borrowed the four-wheeler from his property dealer friend, who was also quizzed in the matter after being taken into custody.

The guard’s son and his two friends were also taken into custody and quizzed to crosscheck the details confessed by the guard.

The police have so far failed to recover the victim’s mobile handset and the blunt object used in the crime. SSP Praveen Kumar, too, admitted that the key suspect had been traced but refused to divulge any further detail. He said the police teams have got concrete leads and that the guilty would be behind bars very soon.

The woman’s naked body, bearing injury marks on head, face and private parts, was found lying in a pool of blood in a primary school in Balsinghkheda village of Mohanlalganj on Thursday morning. She was raped and subjected to cruelty after being taken to the deserted school.
