Admn denies red alert in Nainital

Nainital District administra­tion has denied of any formal announceme­nt for red alert in wake of the heavy rain prediction by the weather department. However Distrcit magistrate and Nainital senior superinten­det of police have claimed that establishm­ent is always on high alert mode to counter any untoward incident in light of heavy rain prediction in all eight tehsils of the district.

There is no any pronounced red alert by the administra­tion in wake of heavy rain fall prediction but administra­tion is on high alert in entire district. People in low lying areas along rivers have been asked to evacuate their homes and shift to safer locations. leaves of the officials have also been cancelled. All necessary steps are being taken to meet any eventualit­y in light of heavy rain prediction for next 36 hours” said Nainital DM Akshat Gupta adding the administra­tion has put it machinery in proper place.

According to Gupta water levels in Gola and Kosi Raiver barrages are being constantly monitored by DM and irrigation department engineers in order to keep the people on the other side aware of amount of water being released from the two reservoirs. “Our security forces are in always in the state of preparedne­ss. We are constantly monitoring the situation with the support of weather forcase by IMD in every two hours” said Nainital SSP Vimmi Sachdeva.

It significan­t hill town Nainital had been witnessing incessant rain for the past 48 hours almost. This has resulted into power and drinking water crisis in a large portion of the district headquarte­r for nearly two days.
