On crash course to impress girls?
Stunters revel that their motorcycle tricks attract onlookers, specially the fair sex
For the young bikers in the city, stunts do mean fun, thrill and a rush of adrenaline. But more importantly, they are the means to impress onlookers, specially the fair sex. A majority of those who zoom about on the city roads on their mean machines says that the idea is to grab the attention of people.
When HT spoke to some youngsters involved in stunts at Marine Drive, a city area infamous for stunt biking, some youths confessed that biking stunts on the stretch were a regular pastime. “Stunt bikers are those who have overcome all fears in driving. Biking is a passion and not an activity,” said a 23-year-old, wishing not to be named.
He and his five friends, who were regular ‘stunt bikers’ said, “We did not become masters in one day. It took us time and pain both to become what we are today. Initially we fell, got scratches, bruises and even fractures. But now we are heroes.”
For many, it began with racing games on computer and gradually they decided to try out the fun. “You feel on a new high when you do this. I think this is the most macho way to impress girls on the road,” said a young biker.
When HT contacted girls who cheered for these boys on the Marine Drive, they openly said that for them it was a brave act of entertainment. Some even had the courage to sit on the pillion while the bikers vroomed away on high speed.
The youngsters feel that playing cricket in the evenings in parks of the locality is passé. Biking, they say, is the real activity that gives them energy and keeps them going.
Putting their lives at stake, the boys refuse to realise how risky the act could be if they lose balance on the bike some day. Parents are unaware that the bikes they have gifted their wards are not mere means of transport but an object of entertainment and amusement.
