CPMT TOPPERS OPTING FOR NON-UP COLLEGES?
Several top ranking candidates of the Combined Pre Medical Test (CPMT) opted out of colleges in Uttar Pradesh on the first day of the CPMT counseling on Sunday.
The counselling session, which invited ranks 1-400 on day one, started at least two to three hours late due to a technical snag, also delaying the process of distributing allotment letters. According to reports, most candidates opted for Lucknow’s King George’s Medical University as their first priority, followed by GSVM, Kanpur as second, SN Medical College, Agra and BRD Gorakhpur as third and fourth choices.
While CPMT topper Shams was present at the counseling along with second, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, ninth and tenth rankers-- Abu Asim, Alia Zehra, Priyanshi Swarup, Shobhit Garg, M Arshad, Kushagra K patel and Neelansha respectively-third ranking Shubham Malhotra didn’t opted for a college in UP as he had already taken admission in the University College of Medical Sciences in New Delhi.
CPMT, the gateway to about 1400 MBBS, 51 BDS, 300 homoeopathy, 320 ayurveda, and 80 Unani medical seats in state run medical institutes, was conducted on July 20, after initially being cancelled on June 22. Following the high court relief to KGMU on Saturday, the number of seats in the medical university went up from 185 to 250.
The counselling will continue till August 8 and candidates allotted seats have to report to respective colleges by August 9. The second counselling for the remaining seats will be conducted from August 12.
