Refuting the registrar’s allegations, vice chancellor lt gen- eral (retd) Zameeruddin Shah denied Shamshad permission to withdraw the resignation, following which he was gheraoed by hundreds of angry students, shouting slogans against him.

Heavy police force has been deployed on the campus to maintain law and order in view of the prevailing tension .

Earlier, in the morning provice chancellor S. Ahmad Ali issued an official order announcing, “Re gistrar Shahrukh Shamshad has resigned from his post on health grounds with immediate effect. The V-C has accepted his resignation and has appointed Dr Asfar Ali Khan of department of electrical engineering as ‘officiating registrar’ till the selection of the new registrar is completed.”

When approached for comments, the new registrar refused and said official spokesperson Rahat Abrar would make a statement. Abrar said the registrar had resigned on health grounds and his resignation had been accepted by the V-C.

He further added, “Dr Asfar Ali Khan has been appointed as officiating registrar and has joined his duties. “

Soon, after, Shahrukh Shamshad, who had been appointed as registrar by a selection committee on May 11, 2012 for a five-year tenure, e-mailed the V-C accusing him of pressurising him to resign.
