Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Monday announced a new ` 900-crore ring road, for which a survey had been completed, would come up in his parliamentary constituency. The ring road when ready would reduce city’s traffic woes by at least 40 per cent, he said.

He said Lucknow was also among the six cities which would boast of a world class railway station. “Gomtinagar railway station has been included in the list,” said Singh.

He said that a state of the art hospital would also come up in Lucknow. “This hospital would be among one of the best not just in the country but in Asia,” he added.

Singh also announced that he would devote ` 1 crore from his MP fund for the development works in the Lucknow east assembly segment that is part of his parliamentary constituency.

He, however, cautioned that these big ticket projects sanctioned for Lucknow would take some time before they start becoming visible. “I have been meeting people who say that nothing is visible on the ground. I wish to tell such people that big projects like these take time coming. But they have been sanctioned and would surely happen,” he said.

Rajnath would launch the clean-Gomti campaign on Tuesday morning on the banks of the Lucknow river along with union water resources minister Uma Bharti. He would also be launching the minimum Rs 1000 pension scheme in Lucknow. Five other Modi ministers including Kalraj Mishra, Uma Bharti, Smriti Irani, General VK Singh and Santosh Gangwar would launch the scheme in various other places in UP.

Singh, who is standing in for Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the latter’s US visit, also praised Modi’s efforts to reach out to the global community saying the country’s image overseas had improved tremendously.

“It is no mean achievement that the US which had denied visa to Modi has now rolled out a redcarpet welcome for him during his historic visit,” Singh said at a function to felicitate party cadre soon after landing in Lucknow on Monday evening. He mentioned the attendance of SAARC heads at the Modi government’s swearing in and the PM’s much acclaimed visits to Bhutan, Nepal and now the US to describe how Modi had charmed the country’s neighbours as well as global players like the US. Displaying his new-found love for cricketing terminologies to describe political happenings, he said winning Lok Sabha elections four months back was like completion of one innings. “The real satisfaction would come when we win UP and that would be like an innings win,” Singh said.

In Delhi recently while briefing the media on his ministry’s 100-day achievements he had said, “We are playing a test match, not a 20-20 match, so don’t expect fours and sixes. We plan to build a solid base instead.”
