LUCKNOW: Candidates who have taken admission to courses other than MBBS in state-run medical colleges can appear in the special admission/allotment procedure for 65 MBBS seats at King George’s Medical University on Tuesday.

The directorate of medical education, in a press briefing on Monday, informed that students who took admission to BDS, BAMS and BHMS could appear in the admission procedure. But there was a rider that BDS students would first have to resign and get a NoC from their colleges and then appear with original documents at the admission counter in PGI. However, BAMS and BHMS students do not have to resign.

This means if such BDS students do not get an MBBS seat even after resigning from BDS, they will lose the BDS seats too. Till now 23 BDS students have resigned in KGMU.

“The admission will be given on merit-cum-options locked by the candidate, hence those who come late for the counsel-

ling might fall behind in the list of allotment,” said DGME KK Gupta.

He said that since it was a special admission, the process of admission would also be completed simultaneously. Hence candidates should come prepared with all documents and fee amount. The special admission drive will also include the BDS seats that fell vacant due to resignations, 4 MBBS seats of Kannauj medical college, one MBBS seat of Ambadkarnagar medical college and one in Safai medical college.

However, parents of students who are studying in institutes other than KGMU have objected to the admission process to 65 seats. They said this was a chance for students to get upgraded from their respective colleges but by excluding the already admitted MBBS students, the medical education department had deprived them of such a chance.
