Rajnath launches EPFO’s new monthly pension scheme
Central government is also working on the plan to ensure house for every family in the country within the next five to 7 years.
LUCKNOW: Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday launched Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation’s (EPFO) scheme for providing ` 1,000 minimum monthly pension to the beneficiaries.
Felicitating the beneficiaries at a programme launched at CMS auditorium in the state capital, he said that the central government is also working on the plan to ensure house for every family in the country within the next five to seven years.
The scheme, a part of Employees’ Pension Scheme-1995 (EPS-95), was simultaneously launched by several union ministers and members of the Parliament at 120 field offices across the country. The government had recently notified an amendment to the EPS-95 to provide a minimum monthly pension of ` 1,000 to beneficiaries.
Singh said, “At present, there are at least 49 lakh pensioners under the scheme. Of these about 13 lakh used to get less than ` 500 a month. All these people will benefit from the amendment.”
Singh said several changes still remained to be carried out in labour law. “At least 44 existing labour laws have been taken into consideration and 12 of those would be amended for better- ment of workers. Some laws, which are of no use in present scenario, would also be ended soon,” he added. CLEANLINESS DRIVE
Rajnath Singh said that he would be in the state capital, which is also his parliamentary constituency, on Gandhi Jayanti to be a part of the cleanliness programme at railway stations and bus stands. CLEAN GOMTI PROJECT
On Clean Gomti project, Rajnath Singh said he had a meeting with union minister for water resources, river development and Ganga rejuvenation Uma Bharati and chalked out the future strategy for the purpose.
“The government is soon going to launch the Clean Gomti project. A technical team has already visited Lucknow to conduct survey and submitted its report to the ministry,” he said.
Officials are now busy preparing detailed report for the project, he added.
