Radar, cars for women cops on display at security expo

NEW DELHI: The security expo, currently on at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, has thrown up quite a few surprises. One of them was a Tata Nano car, which women personnel can use for patrolling. Others included a wall radar, which can tell the details of a closed room, and high-quality cameras.

The Tata Nano car was the star attraction of the event, which sources suggested could be used by special units for women and children. “The Mumbai police use it and it can be handy in Delhi too,” said an official.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), the co-organiser of the event, seemed enthusiastic about the wall radar, which they said can be used by anti-terrorist units across the country. “When pasted on a wall, it can produce the X-ray image of the room. It can track the number of people inside and their movements. One requires training to analyse the radar image but it can be very helpful in anti-terror operations,” said Arvind Ranjan, DG of CISF.

Officials especially pointed out its usefulness in case of 26/11type attacks.

Also on display at the security expo were CCTV cameras with video analytical features that can be used to man sensitive airports. “Our CCTV network is good for post-incident analysis but if we want to prevent any crime, we need cameras with video analytics, which will send an alert in case it notices any unusual activity,” Ranjan said.

The CISF has proposed an integrated security gadget evaluation centre where agencies can see live demo of equipment.
