Ravan to go up in flames tomorrow

LUCKNOW: Demon king Ravan, the symbol of sin and atrocities, will go up in smoke on Vijayadash­mi, (which falls on Friday), signifying the triumph of good over evil. A 121 ft effigy of Ravan , 71 ft effigy of Kumbhkarna and 61 ft effigy of Meghnad would be burnt on Aishbagh Ramleela ground on Friday. A special show of fireworks has also been organised on the occasion.

UP gover nor Ram Naik will be the chief guest of the function.The time of Ravan dahan in Aishbagh is at 7.30 pm. According to president of Aishbagh Ramleela samiti Harishchan­dra Agarwal, special effects will be used in the scene of war between Lord Ram and Ravana . Ram will fire 31 arrows on the effigy of Ravan.

In Sadar, the height of Ravan has been limited to 50 ft. Here the function will be held at 7 pm. Pandit Radheyshya­m Tripathi of Sadar Ramleela Samiti said that Sadar was the place where the effigy of Meghnad was burnt a day before Dussehra.

In Mausamganj, Ravan Dahan will take place at 6 pm. Here on Agrasen ghat, the scene of war between Ram and Ravan will be enacted prior to the dahan. A shobha yatra will be taken out from Daliganj, Sabzimandi, station road, Ikkastand , Moha Meaking road and bandha road before culminatin­g at Mausambagh.

In the Badi Jugauli Dusshera Mela, an effigy of corruption and inflation would be burnt. Here due to rising inflation, the size of Ravan has been reduced from 60 ft to just 21 ft while the Meghnad effigy is only 20 ft tall.

In Hazaribagh Thakurganj Ramleela , a 62 ft effigy of Ravan would be burnt , with a 60 ft Meghnad effigy.

Ravan dahan will also be held at Alambagh, Chinhat, LDA Colony Kanpur Road, Khadara, Raniganj, Nepali Kothi , Chowk, Itaunja , Amaniganj, Gosainganj, Sitapur Road, Sector A, Pant Nagar, Khurram Nagar, Kurmanchal Nagar and Chowk.

In Chowk, the effigy of Ravan would be around 80 ft tall.
