AMU registrar resignation row reaches President

-

ALIGARH: Former registrar of the Aligarh Muslim University, Shahrukh Shamshad, has lodged complaints with the President, the ministry of human resource development and the Vigilance Commission, alleging that vicechancellor Zameeruddin Shah took his resignation by force.

In his e-mail to the President, who is also the visitor of the university, registrar Shahrukh Shamshad alleged he was forced to write the resignation letter, because in case of failure to do so, the V-C had threatened to take action against him. Shamshad alleged that various things, from holding selection committee meetings to ordinary day-to-day works, were being conducted in violation of rules and regulations.

Speaking to HT, Shamshad said, “I have been cheated. The V-C had forced me to write the resignation. I have brought the whole matter to the knowledge of the President of India through an e-mail.”

On Monday, the AMU community was stunned when the administration declared that registrar Shahrukh Shamshad had resigned due to health problems and the V-C had accepted the resignation and appointed Asfar Ali Khan of electrical engineering department as officiating registrar.

But within a few hours, Shamshad back wrote to the V-C alleging he had obtained the resignation under duress, an allegation that Shah denied.
