Be careful while approaching this service lane!

The Mall Avenue flyover became operational from Tuesday, coming as a boon for the commuters. But those using the service lane beside this overbridge may not have a smooth ride.

The staff of UP Housing Board, students of Municipal Nursery School and residents of Mall Avenue have only got a narrow lane for commuting.

RN Lal of the housing board said the bridge culminates in front of the main gate of his office and most of the times vehicles coming down from the Cantonment side are travelling at a high speed.

office gate should be very careful or else he has a fair chance of colliding with another vehicle, he warned.

The only solution is to construct a small retaining wall so that the chances of collision are minimised. Widening of the narrow lane could also help, he suggested.

Ghanshyam Pandey, project manager, UP Bridge Corporation said the corporation’s job is to construct bridges and now it’s up to the PWD and other government departments to widen the service lanes.

However, PWD officials agreed that the traffic arrangement of the area needed to be changed.

An official said, “There should be no problem for the Housing Board and Municipal Nursery to shift their boundaries a few metres back so that the service lane could be widened. At present, only one vehicle is enough to cause a jam. Besides, there is always a chance of vehicles colliding when they come down from cantonment to towards the housing board side.”

He said the PWD would surely construct a retaining wall to prevent accidents on the road.
