Man from Amritsar hangs self on gurudwara campus

LUCKNOW: A 70-year-old Sikh from Amritsar allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself on the campus of Naka Gurudwara here on Thursday evening. His body was found hanging from the staircase of Khalsa school building situated on the campus. Cops said exact reason behind the step is not known yet but probe suggested that he was under acute depression.

The deceased was identified as Gurnam Singh, resident of Tarantal, Amritsar and he was staying on the Gurudwara campus since November 3. He had come to meet his grandson Gurshed Singh, who is undergoing Army training here in Lucknow, and did not return to Amritsar.

Vijay Prakash, inspector of Naka police station said the police was informed about the incident after some visitors spotted the body. He said the deceased’s identity was confirmed from his identity card found in his belongings.

He said spot examinatio­n suggested the victim committed suicide but further probe is going on and and the body has been sent for post mortem.
