LUCKNOW: Though the state government’s project of installing CCTVs at 70 main crossings and intersections of the city is yet to be complete, the city police have decided to install cameras at 70 more strategic points in the state capital.

“The installation of cameras at 70 more points in Lucknow is a separate plan. Under this, the points have been decided strategically so that every vehicle moving out or entering into the city can be captured on cameras,” said Praveen Kumar, SSP, Lucknow. He said this would help keep vigil on movement of vehicle-lifters and notorious elements.

The SSP said 68 points are in urban areas while only two are on the city’s outskirts (rural areas). As many as 27 cameras would be installed in trans-Gomti areas, while 41 would be distributed in east and west parts of the city. He said the officials have already completed the survey of the points where the cameras are to be installed and now the installation work is to be done.

“The city would be under 24x7 video surveillance after completion of these two projects and installation of cameras at 140 different places,” added the SSP.

The previous project comprises installation of 200highresolution CCTVs at 70 main crossings and other crucial points on highways in the city. The project costing Rs 9.96 crore was to be completed a year ago but it was delayed due to shortage of funds.
