NEW DELHI: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday asked her party leaders from Tamil Nadu to shun factionalism and strive for strengthening the organisation at the grassroots level in the backdrop of the exit of former union minister GK Vasan, who is set to float his own outfit.

During an hour-long meeting with Tamil Nadu leaders, including former union finance minister P Chidambaram, whose son Karti on Wednesday questioned the “high command culture” in the party, and state chief EVKS Elangovan, both Sonia and Rahul Gandhi exhorted them to maintain unity and chalk out a plan to strengthen the organisation.

“We have assured the leadership that all the leaders would work unitedly to bring the Kamaraj rule back in the state,” Elangovan said after the meeting.
