Woman constable jumps before moving train, dies

A woman constable committed suicide by jumping before a moving train in Khadri under Madiaon police area on Friday morning.

A native of Lakhimpur district, Surajmukhi, 50, was posted with the police lines and recently transferre­d to Jankipuram police station. She was residing in Khadri as a tenant in the house of another constable, Deshraj Verma. She was yet to join the Jankipuram police station.

Surajmukhi had left the house for a morning walk around 5.30 am but did not come back till late. Sensing trouble, her driver went out searching for her and came to know that she had committed suicide. Some eyewitness­es said Surajmukhi was sitting along the railway track and when the train came she suddenly jumped before it.

Suman and Manorma, sisters of the deceased, said she had divorced with her husband Radheyshya­m some 24 years ago and had also been upset over her daughter’s love marriage. Due to these setbacks, Surajmukhi had started drinking and used to remain depressed, said family members.
