Elephant kills tanker driver, mahout escapes

ALIGARH: An elephant killed a tanker driver near a dhaba in Atrauli area of Aligarh late Thursday night. As people fled from the spot in panic, the mahout went away with the elephant. In-charge of Atrauli kotwali, Vinod Kumar, said two tankers were coming from Uttarakhand to Aligarh. The drivers, Jagtar from Ludhiyana and Tahir from Delhi, had stopped at a dhaba on Ramghat road in Atrauli. Just as Jagtar was about to sit down for food, an elephant standing there trapped him in his trunk and bashed him repeatedly against the tanker. People fled from the spot, while some informed the police. The mahout somehow controlled the elephant and left by the time the police arrived. Jagtar was taken to the community health centre where the doctors declared him brought dead.
