GORAKHPUR: A four-year old girl was allegedly raped in a private school in Gorakhpur, reviving memories of similar incidents in Karnataka’s capital recently.

The incident occurred on Friday.

However, police are yet to nab the unidentified culprit though the school’s manager Nehal Siddiqi and principal Qazi (he goes by one name) were taken into custody for interrogation. Sources said the mother of the child raised an alarm after the minor returned home in an “unusual condition” with blood stains on her uniform.

A family-member of the girl said medical check-up at a private nursing home on Friday confirmed rape.

City senior superintendent of police RK Bhardwaj, however, said a separate examination at the district hospital has ruled out sexual assault. “We took the statement of the girl and she said that when she was washing hands in the bathroom a boy pushed her. But she didn’t describe anything which proves rape,” the SSP said.

The incident turned ugly when police on Saturday caned protestors staging a demonstration in front of the school. 12 persons were injured in police action. The incident comes in the wake of at least three similar incidents of sexual assaults on minors in separate Bengaluru schools.
