Auditions for Sangeet Milon begin today

LUCKNOW: To tap young singers and promote a taste for classical music, Sangeet Milon would return to Lucknow with its all-India vocal classical music competitio­n, ‘Classical Voice of India’, on Sunday. Auditions for the one-year-old musical event will be held at Rai Umanath Bali auditorium, in Qaiserbagh, on Sunday.

Like the previous year, contestant­s would be expected to give a 10-minute performanc­e on ‘vilambit’ and ‘drut khayal’ with ‘alaap’ and ‘taan’ of any raga of their choice, said Arundhati Choudhuri, vice president, Sangeet Milon. “This time auditions would be held in three categories: junior (10-14 years), middle (15-19 years) and senior

(20-24 years). Prizes distributi­on will follow the auditions. All participan­ts will be given participat­ion certificat­es,” she told HT.

Finalists of the three categories would be invited to perform at the grand finale to be held in Lucknow on December 12-13 and winners would be bestowed with several attractive cash prizes and trophies.
