LUCKNOW: T he nationwide cleanliness campaign-’Swach Bharat Abhiyan’-launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi prompted students and teachers of Integral University to pick up brooms and clean the university campus here on Saturday.

In response to the PM’s call to clean filth and litter from the streets, teachers and students of Integral Institute of Medical Science and Research (IIMS&R) of Integral University, led by vice chancellor SW Akhtar, set off on the cleanliness mission with enthusiasm.

A day earlier, a massive awareness drive was undertaken through posters, social networking and word of mouth in the university and medical college. On Saturday, students were divided into groups and they personally cleaned every nook and corner of the college.

Special attention was paid to ensuring cleanliness of areas outside the hospital premises and the college lawns, which are the favourite haunts of students and therefore more prone to littering.

On the day of the campaign, vice chancellor Akhtar himself participated in the campaign and swept the area outside the hospital. He asked the students to make the environment clean and green. He also suggested that they should each plant one sapling each, for fresh air and green environment.

Dean of the IIMS&R, Faruqueuddin Ahmed, appreciated the participation of students and administered an oath to conserve the environment. He informed the students that the cleanliness drive would continue the next day also, with focus on hostel premises and surroundings.
