Tata Motors, TCS off to winning start in CII-YI Cup

LUCKNOW: In the inaugural match of the Confederat­ion of Indian Industry-Young Indians (CII-YI) Corporate Cricket Cup, Tata Motors defeated Samsung by a huge margin of 65 runs while in the second match of the day Aegis lost to TCS by 5 wickets at the Ram Swaroop Engineerin­g College here on Saturday.

Samsung won the toss and decided to put Tata Motors into bat in a 20 over-a-side match. Despite losing two early wickets of Naveen Agnihotri and Sadab Ansari to some good bowling by Yasir Mohammad, Tata Motors recovered well to end their innings at 135 for 4. Opener Manoj Sharma (51) and Vinod K Singh (62) shone with bat for Tata Motors. In reply Samsung kept losing wickets at regular intervals as Tata Motors’ bowlers shared the spoils. Samsung were bowled out for a paltry 70 runs in 17.1 overs. Srikant took three for Tata Motors. Vinod K Singh was adjudged the man of the match.

In the second match of the day Aegis won the toss and elected to bat first. Abhishek Saxena and Devendra Ahuja bagged three wickets each as Aegis were bowled out of a paltry 69 runs in 17.3 overs. Opener Devender top scored for Ageis with 26 runs.

In reply TCS managed to get to the winning score with 22 balls to spare. TCS opener Devendra Gautam top scored with 38 runs while Abhishek Saxena was given the man of the match.

The chief guest on the occasion was Vikram Kaul, president, Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Trust and president EurAsia Cricket Series and Commonweal­th Youth Sports Developmen­t Council. He motivated the players and shared his experience of sports.

“This is a one of a kind cricket tournament where the focus is on unifying people and creating a feeling of team work amongst them. This tournament is a good initiative and should be organised on an even large scale in the editions to come,” said Kaul. Other participat­ing teams include, SRM Motors, Proplarity, Pernord Ricard, hosts CII-YI, Hindustan Times, Kamuna Group, Hero Motocorp and STPL.
