GREATER NOIDA: Never before the Buddh International Circuit here had fans in such great numbers. No doubt the JK Tyre Racing Championship has the best upcoming drivers of the country, but it certainly is no Formula One. However, on Sunday, as Vishnu Prasad rediscovered his touch and raced through to victory in Race 10 of Round 3, in process regaining the championship leader’s spot he briefly lost to Akhil Rabindra, the Grandstand of the BIC responded vociferously.

“The best part is these are people who have walked into the office and asked for passes. We didn’t want to give out passes over the counter or sell it online as we wanted only those who are keen on motorsport,” said Sanjay Sharma, Head (Motorsport), JK Tyre and Industries. That fans took the pain of reaching the venue so far from Delhi shows that the country is finally warming up towards sports beyond cricket. That the edition of the JK Tyre Racing Championship also had bikers for the first time also helped the cause. IT’S ALL ABOUT DATA Most, if not everyone, knows that in the top tiers of motorsport, the difference between the winner and the rest is most often data. However, data plays a major role in the lower levels too, andi n case of Indian motor sport, is silently leading a revolution. A JK FB02 car in the JK Tyre Championship has 16 dedicated channels that monitor everything from the driver’s speed to when and where he breaks. This data acquisition, the result of which can be directly monitored as a graph on the engineer’s computer, goes along way in driver development.
