Just ahead of the bilateral technology summit between the US and India, the minister counsellor for economic, environment, science and technology affairs in the US embassy George Sibley said the US is keen to increase collaborations with India in areas of scientific research.

“We are both space-faring nations... The Mars working group provides us a chance to take this cooperation further just as Isro and NASA can use space to better life here on Earth through the NISAR Earth Observations Joint Satellite,” he said.

The summit, to be held on November 18 and 19 in Greater Noida, will be a first-of-its-kind coming together of industry, academia and government from both sides. “This will help deepen relations between both countries in the field of science. We have scheduled the joint committee meeting on science and technology cooperation to precede the summit, where scientists from the US will come to India to discuss where that deepening collaboration is likely to be most fruitful,” Sibley told HT.

The summit will showcase over a dozen Indo-US jointly funded efforts — for instance, the Jaipur knee will be on display, where both countries worked together to develop low cost prosthetics which underprivileged people can access. Naushad Forbes, vice-president CII and chairman of the summit, said it aims to enrich people’s understanding of technical change as a source of progress, with knowledge application as the source of technical change. Sibley added that both countries would benefit from the exchange of ideas facilitated by the summit.

THE SUMMIT, TO BE HELD ON NOV 18 AND 19 IN GREATER NOIDA, WILL BE A FIRST-OF-ITS-KIND COMING TOGETHER OF INDUSTRY, ACADEMIA AND GOVT FROM BOTH SIDES.
