Another drive to cleanse Lucknow’s lifeline

LUCKNOW: A cleanlines­s drive was undertaken by the district magistrate and civil defence volunteers on the banks of river Gomti at Kudia Ghat on Sunday.

Tonnes of weeds were removed by the volunteers and buried at a place nearby. The other ghats in the city will also be cleaned soon, said district magistrate Raj Shekhar while kicking off another 10-day cleanlines­s drive. The volunteers assembled at 7 am and worked till 12 noon.

to minimise pollution in the Gomti,” said the DM.

Earlier, the administra­tion had launched a drive on November 7, under which the 1.5-km stretch of riverbank from Boat Club to Hanuman Setu was cleaned with the help of 600 people.

The DM said several parks like Shraddha Upvan, Sai Upvan, Khatu Shyam Vatika, Bagh -e -Akeed at , Jhulelal Vatika, Avadh Garden, Kargil Shaheed Vatika, Mohan Upvan and Mankameshw­ar Upvan were situated on the banks of Gomti, so it’s our duty to clean the river and ghats to keep the city beautiful.

The administra­tion roped in 20 boats with divers, 100 cleaning staff, 100 local volunteers, an ambulance team, three tractor trolleys and JCB machines to make the campaign more effective.
