LUCKNOW: Former Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Anar Singh Diwakar committed suicide under mysterious circumstances at a hotel in Etah on Sunday morning. He appeared to have shot himself with his licensed revolver, police said. He was 57.

The police recovered a suicide note in his room in which Diwakar alleged his associates had committed Rs 12 crore fraud and a bank had issued a recovery notice against him. In the note, he demanded a CBI probe into the matter as well.

In the suicide note, he has named five persons Aditya Ranjan Singh, Rihan Farrukh, Asar Khan, Srikant and BD Tripathi, all residents of Delhi, for the alleged fraud, according to the police

“My associates ruined me and I was left with no option but to end my life,” Diwakar, who ran a business in Etah, Noida and Delhi, wrote in the suicide note.

Etah district police chief SK Verma said the police sealed the room in which ex- MLA was staying and started a probe into the case.

Diwakar, a native of Ranamau village in Kasganj district, arrived at Hotel Sikhar on Saturday afternoon. He booked a room on the second floor of the hotel. The hotel staff said the former MLA did not come out of his room and ordered tea on Sunday morning. When the waiter went to his room at 9am, he found Diwakar dead on the bed. The revolver was lying nearby. He alerted the manager who, in turn, informed the police.

Senior police officers rushed to the hotel and started a probe. The family members of the ex-MLA reached Etah in the evening.
