‘Complete work on Allahabad, Lucknow highway by Dec 15’

LUCKNOW: Expressing its displeasur­e over poor maintenanc­e of highways and roads in the state, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on Monday said it expected the central and the state government­s to complete renovation work of the Lucknow-Allahabad highway by December 15 as per the assurance given earlier.

Lucknow-Allahabad highway by December 15 as per the assurance given earlier. The court also directed that all pending issues related to it should be addressed in a joint meeting of the secretary, central road transport department, the chief secretary of UP and the principal secretary PWD, UP.

A division bench of chief justice Dr DY Chandrachu­d and justice Krishana Murari gave this order on a public interest litigation (PIL) petition filed on the issue.

The court further directed to place the progress and status report of the matter by the next date of hearing on December 15.

On behalf of the state gover nment, advocate general Vijay Bahadur Singh said despite request and efforts made by the state government, the central government and the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) were not giv- ing their response on the issue.
