LUCKNOW: There is a flurry of excitement in the girls’ shelter home in Moti Nagar. Poonam, Rajni and Meena, three inmates of the shelter home, will be married on December 7 and their friends are busy shopping, cleaning, designing and decorating, while wedding folk songs resonate in the home all day long.

Poonam was brought to the Lilawati Munshi Balgrih after being rescued by Childline and Rajni was left here by her uncle after her parents died. Meena was brought to the home by some good Samaritans who found her on the road.

“Meena is marrying a boy who works at a private firm in Moradabad, while Poonam’s g room is a shopkee per in Lucknow. Rajni’s groom is from Agra and works in a factory,” said Maya Hans, who is like a mother to all the children at the home.

“We not only take the girls in but also ensure they are properly settled in life. The girls are educated and married off to boys of respectable families,” said Hans. One of the girls was married earlier in the year, in January.

other inmates at the home are also waiting with breathless anticipation for the day, when they will be wearing new dresses and matching accessories.

Meanwhile, the management of the home is busy in preparations. “We are managing the girls’ trousseau and gifts, and hopefully their wedding will be as splendid as those held in other households,” said Hans.
