A ‘suicide note’ and a revolver were recovered from the hotel room in Etah where former Samajwadi Party MLA from Jalesar Anaar Singh Diwakar was found dead under mysterious circumstances a day before, police said on Monday.

The letter mentioned the name of f ive Delhi- based property dealers, who allegedly duped Diwakar of Rs 350 crore, thus forcing him to take the extreme step, police said.

Diwakar had checked into Shikhar hotel on Saturday and he was found dead in room number 403 of the hotel by a hotel staff around 9.30 am the next day along with a revolver lying near the body.

According to the hotel staff, the for mer MLA, who also owns a garment factory in Gurgaon, had called a hotel employee Monu around 6.30 am on Sunday and ordered for tea. This was the last time he was seen alive. His body was spotted first by another hotel staff around three hours later.

Police have sent the body for post-mortem and workers of hotel are being interrogated, SSP Surendra Kumar Verma said, adding, apparently this was the case of suicide.

However, the family members of the deceased have alleged this to be a case of murder and an FIR has been filed in this connection. Brother of the deceased politician Sarvesh Diwakar have accused Dr Ansar Khan of Noida, Aditya Ranjan of Chankyapuri, Bansal of Kama Place, Shrikant Singh of Delhi, BD Tripathi and Rehan for Diwakar’s murder.

In 2002, Diwakar was elected from Jalesar constituency to Vidhan Sabha on SP ticket. In 2009, he had contested for the Lok Sabha election from Hathras as a SP candidate, but was defeated. Later in 2012 assembly elections, he contested again on Congress ticket.

He was recently re-inducted into SP by party national general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav. A pall of gloom has descended on the party foll owing t he l eader’s death, a local party worker said.
